Why remedial massage?

Remedial massage is not simply a luxury but is an essential component for restoring and maintaining physical and mental health and well being.

Tightness and tension within the muscles and connective tissue of our bodies can affect the ability to move well and do the things we love to do every day.

Attaining and maintaining mobility, strength and balance is a life time task. Where indicated, in addition to massage you will be provided with strategies that you can use at home, encouraging daily movement practices to help decrease or prevent your musculoskeltal issues from re-occurring.

Acute injuries

The aim here is fix as quickly as we can (knowing there is a general time course for soft tissue injuries) and then not see you until the next time you are injured.

The goal of this treatment is an attempt to “speed up” the recovery process with best evidence based practice.

Musculoskeletal injuries or chronic conditions management

The goal here is not to fix but to manage the problem to allow you to function in daily life as best you can.

The goal might not be complete resolution to preinjury status but to the point where day day function is pretty sound and you remain below a threshold of tolerance. For some, this program of treatment may looks like initially 1/week, progressing to 1/fortnight…once/month

Functional optimisation

Rather than waiting for an injury to strike, wouldn’t it be good to prevent them happening in the first place?

Whether you are an avid athlete, pursue a hobby such as gardening or endure prolonged sitting at work, our goal is to help you deal with wear and tear. Our approach is individualised for each client but typically involves a regular massage – for example monthly.

Just like you service your car regularly and get an annual dental check-up, a regular remedial massage can head off problems. Generally the higher you want to perform and extend your body capacity, the “harder” your recovery ought to be.

Who could benefit from remedial massage?

The short answer is ‘everyone’.

For the young athlete who wants to get optimal performance out of their body, the parent suffering the wear and tear of looking after kids and the retiree looking to maintain their independence, remedial massage has a lot to offer.

About Winning Position

Winning Position is located in the Canberra suburb of Melba. It was founded in 2018 by Vicki Whitelaw to provide remedial massage, exercise physiology and expert bike fitting services to the ACT.

Vicki is passionate about what she does:

I have been a Remedial massage therapist and Exercise Physiologist for almost 25 years.

I have been an elite cyclist and understand the value of regular massage for me to perform. I was fortunate to have regular treatments whilst training and racing around the world!

Prior to this I worked with the Australian rowing team to prepare them for the Athens Olympic games in 2004. Being part of the Sports medicine team of doctors, physios, acupuncturists, psychologists, managers that facilitates the performance of athletes at the top of their game was certainly an exhilarating and very satisfying experience!

These days, I practice locally from my clinic in West Belconnen, Canberra. My focus is not only treating athletes but people from all walks of life. I utilise various types of massage techniques to remediate the aches and pains, and decrease the soft tissue tension inherent with the muscles and connective tissues of the body.

Attaining and maintaining mobility, strength and balance is a life time task. Often , following a remedial massage treatment, I will advise you on some strategies that you can use at home, encouraging daily movement practices to help decrease or prevent your musculoskeltal issues from occurring.

Finally I love feet! As they serve as the foundation to almost every day-to-day task you perform, a consult with me is most likely to steer towards education on how you can acquire functional feet.
